The ANM should calculate the estimated number of pregnancies in one year in her area
She can match the estimated number with the actual number of the registered pregnancies
In any month, the no. of registered AN women should be HALF of the estimated annual number
Calculation of the estimated number of pregnancies in the YEAR:
Obtain information regarding:
The Population size and
The birth rate of the area under her jurisdiction
Calculate the number of live births in her jurisdiction using the following formula:
All pregnancies do not result in live births.
some may end in abortions and
some in still births.
Hence the number of Live births will lead to underestimation of the pregnant women in the year
Therefore, a correction factor of 10% is used for accommodating ‘pregnancy wastage’
So the total number of pregnancies for the year is estimated to be:
Expected pregnancies in one year=estimated live births (LB)+ 10% of LB
In any month the no. of registered pregnancies should be HALF of this number.
If the registered women number is lesser than expected, the ANM should approach community leaders and key people to ensure that the unregistered pregnant women are contacted and registered for ANC
Some women may be receiving ANC from private sector. Their names and the private clinic’s name should be entered in the register (known as Antenatal Register).
The ANM must keep track of all the pregnant women of her area and ensure that they receive ANC whether from the Govt. sector or private sector if she chooses.
If a pregnant woman does not turn up for the scheduled AN visit, ANM must follow her and counsel for regular AN check-up
A ‘Name based tracking system’ has been introduced for tracking women for their ANCs and children for their immunizations
Mother and Child Tracking System (MCTS)
The system gives the feedback information to the ANM too.
